As many of you know, my dad has been living with ALS for the past eight years. Recently, my mom was re-diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer, after 12 years of remission.
These are obviously challenges that my family and I must live with on a daily basis. However, it’s pretty unbelievable that two of the bravest and toughest people I know are my own parents.
Since my wrestling career is now over, I’ve felt the need to put my energy into something else.
If you ask any of my former teammates or coaches, they will tell you that I am extremely opposed to running. This is largely due to injuries/surgeries I’ve had on my knees, ankles, and back. I’ve spent the better part of the last 5 years avoiding running entirely.
So now, I’m going to run a marathon. The Yuengling Shamrock Marathon (if I’m going to run a marathon, I’m making sure there is plenty of beer at the finish line) will take place on March 17, 2019 in Virginia Beach, VA.
Every dollar I raise will go to charity. Half to the ALS Association Iowa Chapter. Half to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
I will be taking donations on a pledge basis, per miles. Example: Pledge $1.00/Mile x 26.2 = $26.20
I hope you’ll consider donating to this cause. I will keep y’all updated with my marathon training. The pain my body will endure in this venture is nothing compared to the hardships that families of ALS and cancer patients go through every day. I’ll run every mile with a smile on my face knowing this money might make a small difference in someone’s life.
